The Duologue series explore making images using layers of watercolour and gouache on paper, playing with the technical qualities of opacity and transparency. I had a lot of fun inventing images this way.
I used traditional methods of masking out areas with wax or rubber solution to make linear drawings, and then building up an image by removing sections to reveal the underneath. In the end I got frustrated with the small sizes and working on paper, so I started to use acrylic on canvas in the Shelf Life series.
Works from this series were selected for The Sunday Times Watercolour Competition, Mall Galleries London (2015, 2016).
My RWA diploma work featured in Art Quarterly magazine in Autumn 2019. In an essay by Anna McNay entitled "Meet the collectors: Ellen Sharples".
